Structure:
• 3:3 containing 1 teacher, 1 learner and 1 normal dunger acting as a rand
• 5:3 containing 2 teachers, 2 learners and 1 normal dunger acting as a rand
(Note: the normal dungers are not being assessed and are only there to see how the learner can take them into account and work with them e.g. they take bonus paths and he drags through. The normal dunger must be aware of the slow speed these floors are to be taken at.)
Method:
The Learner/s are followed throughout the floor. In every room they MUST stop and say what they will do next (eg. which way to carry gt through/drop gt and path 1 way or go to their gate etc) and EXPLAIN why. The teacher will then give them feedback on their decision - whether it was right or a different one could have been made to save more time. You should not aim to complete these floors in a normal or fast time, they are only to help people learn to path efficiently so they know this information and can then apply it in an instant in a real floor. You should only focus on giving them feedback on how they are pathing/the order they do things in but you can give tips on other areas if they stand out.
The main areas to focus on (or give feedback on):
• Dragging gt through the right path
• Knowledge of crit/bonus paths to aid in pathing/gt movement
• Ability to handle splitting paths with one gate (eg dropping gate in middle and doing smaller paths first)
Purpose:
Completing this program at such a slow pace will help you develop the fundamental knowledge of pathing that you NEED for normal paced floors. Once you have this knowledge you can practice it yourself to get used to the faster pace of normal floors so you can make these decisions in an instant and even predetermine them as you will learn to predict which way the next few rooms will go.
Knowing how to path efficiently is crucial to achieve faster floors as you won’t waste time rerunning doors or doubling back in the direction you just came from.
Completion of this program to a fairly high standard is compulsory for people who wish to join the clan who have a dung level under 105. Also, successful completion of this program to a very high standard will soon be a requirement to achieve Carrier, Keyer and Maven ranks in 3bo, they are also great practice for the trial as the areas covered are extremely relevant to the criteria of these ranks.
Even if you’re not intending to apply for the ranks mentioned above, don’t be afraid to volunteer to be in this program, it is extremely beneficial to learn these things, or if you already have a decent knowledge of pathing and just want to check you’re doing everything correctly. I recommend this program to anyone below the Maven ranking.
